Joseph L. Bott, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:12 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Columbus Regional Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon with Rev. Jerry Byrd officiating. Interment with military graveside rites were conducted in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A Rosary Service was conducted on Monday at Sawyer — Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.

Born on February 5, 1937, in North Vernon, Joe was the loving son of Ludger and Clara Sell Bott. He was united in marriage to Mary Johnson on July 20, 1968 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She survives.

Joe graduated from North Vernon High School in 1957. He went on to serve his country proudly in the Army from 1959 to 1962. He retired in 1996 from Cummins Inc. after 31 years where he was a machine operator. He was a lifetime resident of North Vernon and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Joe enjoyed art and wood working. Joe and Mary spent winter months working jigsaw puzzles together.

In addition to his wife, Mary Bott of North Vernon, survivors include daughters, Katherine (James) Cool of Carmel, and Diane (Matthew) Bower of North Vernon; brother, John Bott of Scipio; grandchildren, Jacob (Karla), and Sean Bower both of North Vernon; step grandchildren, Cory (Megan) Cool of Brownsburg , and Callie (Blake) Smith of Greensburg; eight great-grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Ludger and Clara Bott; brothers, Robert, Leo, and Paul Bott.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
